This course combines boat control, self and assisted rescues, intermediate strokes, trip planning and practical navigation over 3 consecutive days. Day 2 and 3 will be taught during day paddles to local destinations.

Learn to Kayak Camp

Learn to plan and enjoy the wonders of reaching camping destinations that can only be reached by boat. Learn to select appropriate gear, use dry bags, pack efficiently to increase stability and launch and land in protected waters. This is an intro course and not open coast. Some limited kayak skills will be included. Wet exit and assisted rescue experience is required.
*Can be combined with additional days of any skills desired: boat control, rescues, navigation, trip planning, etc.

Introduction to Navigation with Map & Compass

Learn how to read and interpret topographic maps and use a compass to plan a route and Stay Found while hiking or backpacking. Learn the UTM coordinate system to plot your location on a map and call for rescue if needed.
This workshop is very hands-on and includes a hike to practice map and compass skills and Staying Found while hiking.

3 Day Comprehensive Back- packing Skills Development

This course combines skills related to planning and taking an overnight trip into the backcountry Day 2 and 3 will be taught on a short backpacking trip filled with hands-on skills development including gear selection, setting up camp, cooking, map and compass skills and route finding.
Participants will do all of their own skills with instruction and support.
Additional days can be added for further skills development.
